Connectivity

How LinguaNet links agencies and offices

The present LinguaNet prototype links a number of police forces in different countries. Each location has the language interface appropriate to it and an address list suited to its activities. Some stations have contact with the entire user community.

Apart from two mobile terminals most of the connections are made between static terminals installed in offices or stations. The bulk of the communications traffic in the future is expected to be between such static installations at both regional police premises and national bureaux. Mobile communications links of the sort illustrated here: radios, pagers, and mobile terminals, together with connections to other forms of communication such as telephone and fax, will be the subject of trials during the development when detailed questions of local network connectivity will be addressed.
